I have just discovered that What I Posted has been deleted.I wish that person could help me to restore what he or she might have deleted accidentally. This is John visiting.

John, I never saw what you posted.  I figured I would try to summarize our discussion the other night.  Please chime in as I'm quite sure I missed something.

During Session 3, we examined the issue of Gonzaga's drug policy with respect to students.  We discussed various aspects of the policy utilizing the readings on framing and Stone's Policy Paradox, including the application of her discussions on intrests, rules and rights.  Upon examining Gonzaga's actually policy and discussing recent high profile cases, we came to the concensus that the University's policy is fairly open for interpretation and discretion.  - Chuck  Overall, Our group disagreed with the premise of one strike and your out rule at Gonzaga.  We connected our disagreement with the policy to Stone's Polis and Market argument.  In our opinion, the current policy reflects Stone's Market principal.  There is little concern about the needs of the individual and the policy does not provide the opportunity for the person to learn from the consquences.  We asserted that a policy that allowed flexibility is a Polis approach and healthier for the individual and the community.- Patrick

I have finally found out why I could not sign on to this site.  Operator error.

During Session 4, we discussed natural capital.  We found that natural capital when used with the Polis model suggests that through active citizens communities accept responsiblity for their impact on the world.   Also, we discussed what a global citizen is and how globalization affects the world as a whole and if globalization has had an impact on the poor of Spokane.  In general I believe we are in agreement that what happens in one area of the world affects another.  This session provided an oppurtunity for an interesting discussion as usual. - Please add to this to include all that I left out.  Respectfully PJ

The group discussed how natural capitalism relates to Stone's definition of the Polis.  Our group asserted that natural capitalism is related to the Polis since it is in the best interest of the community instead of the individual.  We also talked about individual efforts that each of us can make in our own lives to improve the environment (recycling, water conservation, energy conservation).  We agreed that change needs to happen on a personal level in order to create change in the larger community.  Patrick

Hi Guys,You have given me hope for  the joy of global citizenship. We were previleged to have a Guru like James Beebe.

see you in the next class.pray for me to join you again.I love you guys. You are wonderful people of Team B.The entire members of the class will never be forgotten.

JOhn

The most powerful aspect of our last class related to global citizenship and what each one of us can od in our own lives to create change.  Our team responded with a variety of ideas including:

1.) Engagement in the political process.

2.)  Travelling worldwide and experiencing new cultures, languages etc.

3.) Conserving resources and recylcing.

4.) Continued dailogue with others in regards to global citizenship

5.) The doctoral program in leadership in itself in a effort towards global citizenship.

The group concensus was one of personal responsibility towards a shift in focus from consumption to sustainability.  Patrick
